The word Reiki originates from two Japanese words Rei, which means Universal; and Ki which means Life Force Energy.  These concepts are shared by many cultures and many different forms of treatment use the same healing patterns, recognised as Chakra points, Acupuncture meridians or energy pathways used in Reflexology.  Originating as an ancient form of hands-on healing in Tibet, Reiki was rediscovered by Mikau Usui in the early 1900’s in Japan and was brought to the West by Mrs Takata in the early 1970’s.  My Training has been in the Usui Tradition.

Most people are aware that every living thing has an energy field that can be photographed in the Electro-magnetic Spectrum and is often referred to as the Aura.  Put simply, if your body’s energies flow easily and well then the body can repair itself better and deal more effectively with stress and emotional difficulties.   The essence of Reiki Healing as I practice the Therapy is to place my hands within the Energy Field of the person being Treated and  to use my own energy to re-direct and re-focus their energy until it flows cleanly.  This in turn permits the persons' own body to begin to heal itself as it should.  It is, in my opinion, important to remember that Reiki is a complimentary Therapy, so will always be in addition to any other treatment you may be undergoing. Reiki does not conflict with other treatments, it enhances them.
